Sunny San Diego. Part 2.
Gas lamp District / Downtown
Not so much for sightseeing, but more as an entertainment center. All clubs, lounges and main bars are to be found here. The epicenter is the historical Gas Lamp District, initially founded many years ago as an attraction for Sailors hitting the port. San Diego still is one of the main Navy towns. You will encounter many young military people having the time of their lives in the Downtown area.
Balboa Park
This park is one of the most famous locations San Diego has to offer, and is well known across the nation. A great number of wonderful museums and galleries made up of classic Spanish architecture and the large variety of plants including Cactus and Rose Gardens will take away your breath away. Here in the park you can also find the pools with fish and turtles, dream like Botanical Garden, and artistically designed fountains. Not to mention the Globe theatre44 where most of the plays and musicals are performed. Every Christmas Balboa park turns into a magical place with phenomenal lights, decorations, and music.
Sea Port Village
This is an impossibly cute and cozy place filled with tiny coffee shops, gift stores, and restaurants. Musicians, Psychic readings, and street performers are often habitants of this place. With a Small pond with ducks and turtles adds a little nature to the village atmosphere. If you continue walking along the harbor you will see the Midway– a de-commissioned aircraft carrier; which is now a popular museum. Another recognizable part of San Diego is the kissing Sailor and Nurse statue.

Embarcadero Marina Bay Park
Mission Bay
If you like any kind of water activities, this is the spot for you. Countless rental offers of boats’, jet-skis’, paddle boards’, and kayaks’ are available here. Going for the dinner cruise or whale watching tours could be a nice way to relax and still stay by the water.
Zoo and SeaWorld
San Diego zoo is one of the main attractions in town. It’s a truly wonderful place to escape the urban settings and enjoy the nature. The Zoo has a great variety of animals and offers some shows and animal feeding programs. Sea World is famous for the fabulous shows with the animals as well as a variety of rides.
Restaurants and breweries
As a near the border city San Diego is heavily influenced by Mexican cuisine. Make sure to try it while you are here! If Mexican food is not your favorite, you will find plenty of choices to pick from. Besides touristic Downtown I recommend two places which are literally packed with good restaurants: Hill Crest and Little Italy. If you care for beer, you would want to check out the North Park area, the local beer capital. Either way, southern California is most definitely known for having a great variety of beer, breweries, and fantastic dive bars (as my husband says).
See San Diego from above
If you want to experience something different and memorable, take a small plane ride! Nothing will make you feel that you have seen it all in San Diego like an airplane ride; outstanding and unforgettable experience!
If you are still not in love with San Diego, you just haven’t been here! This city will melt anyone’s heart and please the pickiest traveller. If the phrase “it’s a keeper” would be applicable to any city, San Diego would be The One.
